Google sign-in app

Google requires your own sign-in app. It is free, it takes about 10 minutes, and only you use it.

Menu names in Google's console change now and then. If one differs, look for the nearest match.

Make the app

  1. Go to console.cloud.google.com and sign in.
  2. Create a project. Any name works, such as calsync.
  3. With that project selected, open APIs and Services, then Library. Find Google Calendar API and click Enable.
  4. Open Google Auth Platform and click Get started.
  5. Fill in an app name and your contact email. For Audience, choose External. Finish the form.
  6. Open Audience and click Publish app. An unverified app is fine for yourself. In Testing mode Google signs you out every 7 days, so publish it.
  7. Open Clients and create an OAuth client. Choose the application type Desktop app. Give it any name.
  8. Copy the client ID and the client secret.

Give it to calsync

Paste the client ID and client secret into the calsync page. With the command line, run calsync setup google and paste them at the prompts.

Sign in to your Google account from calsync. Google shows an unverified app warning. That is expected, because the app is yours.

  1. Click Advanced.
  2. Click Go to your app name.
  3. Click Allow.

You do this once per account. To use another Google account, sign in again from calsync.

Signing in when calsync runs on a server

Google sends your browser back to an address that only works on the machine running calsync. If your browser ends on a page that won't load, that is fine. Copy that page's whole address and paste it into the box on the calsync sign-in page.
